Usability: User Research

Each of the sections had interesting parts in developing methods of research from Card Sorting to Use Cases. For my particular study I will be using the Individual Interviewing. Which is One-on-one discussions with users show you how a particular user works. They enable you to get detailed information about a user's attitudes, desires, and experiences.

Some of the best practices include, selecting representative participants, an interview protocol, a skilled interviewer, tape record the sessions.

Peer review Assignment 1
The Peer Review was submitted in an e-mail to the professor as well. At the time of this assignment, there was only one classmate that had completed it.

I feel that he did a good job following the project instructions. His evaluations are clear, concise, and easy to read. Each of the subject areas are to the point with graphical representation.

Difficult to read, need to expand browser to full screen to read. There are arrows on the page, but it is difficult to tell where they point and the descriptions do not seem to match.

I found the Ten Design Heuristics useful in identifying the different areas of the internet page (in our case). Consistancy is one of my pet peeves when writing my own code or using someone else's. I did notice the adaption of 'Folder' over the use of 'Directory' (a term used earlier in computers to represent data location). Looping is a term I use when a set of given choices always reurn to a certain point (looping can be frustrating). Thumbnails make displaying images faster to load, give the user the choice to open the image.

Project management tools are useful in aiding the development of organizing tasks. PM tools help define a path so projects have a clear line to follow from start to finish. They establish a schedule to track the progress and avoid cost overruns. And finally, it ensures the maximum use of resources.

In today’s competitive world, structuring and scheduling are critical in project management. Oracle and Primavera are two of world leaders in PM software (the latter was purchased by the leading in 2008). Unlike Oracle and Primavera, OpenProject is an affordable alternative with many of the same features. Rather than compare apples and oranges, I will only be looking the oranges. OpenProject, TaskFreak, and Asana are all similar open source Project Management Programs. All are relatively simple to use with easy to follow instructions. However, OpenProject and TaskFreak Gantt charts and can have multiple ordering formats, while Asana is very basic. OpenProject and TaskFreak differ with cost and database options. OpenProject offers and online database, but only has a thirty day free trial timelime. TaskFreak is free, but has limited database options.
